Ed Fox (Foxie, as he was affection-ately known) was another car enthusiast who hung out at Fraser and Kingsway in the 1950s. As a member of the British Columbia Roadster Racing Association (BCRRA), he was involved in the early days at Digney Speedway as a mechanic. Ed was well known for his mechanical skills and willingness to help others. In 1952, Ed became a member of the British Columbia Custom Car Association (BCCCA), (he was number 11). Since his back lane garage was across from the BCCCA meeting hall he was always working on friend’s hot rods or custom cars. Some of these left Ed’s garage and headed directly to race at Abbotsford Airport. Foxie built two dragsters, which raced at Abbotsford in the mid 1950s. good friends with Andy Anderson. Ed (along with a partner) designed and built one of the first go-karts in Western Canada. They were planning to go into business producing the karts. Unfortunately, Ed died in a motor vehicle accident in August 1961. He was survived by his wife Carol, a 16-month old son and a 4-month old daughter. Ed also had two brothers. |
