Chuck Robinson became interested in motorsport in the late 1940s. Chuck could be found with Jack Williams, Larry McBride, Bob Phinney, Dick Brunt and many others at the Aristocrat at Kingsway and Fraser. In the early days of hot rodding, Chuck and his friends owned some of the first hopped up cars in Vancouver. Chuck competed as an oval track racer at Digney Speedway in a 1930 Model A roadster as well as participating in drag races at Abbotsford Airport, Arlington and Kent, Washington. Chuck was instrumental in the formation of the British Columbia Custom Car Association (BCCCA). the years, including a green 1936 Ford. With the help of his friends, Larry and Ray McBride, they installed juice brakes and a column shifter as well as lowering and blanked it. Chuck built a 1932 roadster which he chopped, channelled, sectioned and used a Buick engine for power. His friend, Joe Mahovlich, provided the running gear and chassis. Chuck provided the candy apple paint job. Chuck won several Sweepstakes and People’s Choice awards at the Seattle Car show and the Pacific Motorama. He also won best paint and best engineer with this beautiful roadster His cherished memories include the several years he served as President of BCCCA and his involvement in helping organize the Pacific Motorama. |
